About the Spray Cost Calculator

Crop protection is often the most unpredictable cost of the season. A single pest outbreak can mean two or three extra sprays, and premium products can cost several thousand rupees per litre. Knowing the cost per acre helps you decide whether a spray is economically justified, compare products, and budget for the season.

This calculator splits the cost into:

  • Chemical – based on the quantity you actually use (and, separately, the whole packs you'll have to buy),
  • Labour – per acre, per round,
  • Other costs – stickers or adjuvants, sprayer hire, tractor-mounted spraying.

How to use the Spray Cost Calculator

  1. 1 Enter the area and the product dose per acre from the label.
  2. 2 Enter the number of spray rounds you expect.
  3. 3 Enter the pack size and price.
  4. 4 Add labour and any other cost per round, then press Calculate cost.

The formula we use

Product needed = Dose per acre × Acres × Rounds
Chemical cost = Product needed ÷ Pack size × Pack price
Labour = Labour per acre × Acres × Rounds
Total = Chemical + Labour + Other costs × Rounds

Worked example

2 acres, two spray rounds, a product used at 300 ml per acre, sold in 250 ml bottles at ₹650, and labour at ₹300 per acre per round (illustrative prices).

  1. Product needed = 300 × 2 × 2 = 1,200 ml.
  2. Chemical cost = 1,200 ÷ 250 × ₹650 = ₹3,120.
  3. Labour = ₹300 × 2 × 2 = ₹1,200.
  4. Total = ₹4,320, which is ₹1,080 per acre per round.

Because 1,200 ml is 4.8 bottles, you would actually buy 5 bottles (₹3,250) and have 50 ml left over.

Things to keep in mind

  • Spray only when needed. Scouting and economic threshold levels (ETLs) help avoid sprays that cost more than the damage they prevent.
  • Leftover product. Store part-used packs safely in the original container, away from food, children and animals.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cost of spraying per acre?

It depends heavily on the product, dose and local labour rates. Typical knapsack spraying labour ranges from a few hundred rupees per acre upward. Enter your own figures for an accurate estimate.

Should I count the whole pack or just what I use?

Both are shown. The chemical cost uses the exact quantity; "packs to buy" shows how many whole packs you need and what they cost.
