Seed treatment labels give a dose per kilogram of seed – "2 g per kg" or "3 ml per kg". Enter that dose and how much seed you have, and this calculator gives you the total product and water to prepare. It only uses the dose you enter from the label.
About the Seed Treatment Calculator
Treating seed before sowing protects it from soil-borne fungi and early pests, and biological treatments like Rhizobium, PSB or Trichoderma help the crop get established. It is one of the cheapest crop-protection steps you can take – but only if the dose is right. Too little doesn't protect; too much can reduce germination.
Seed treatment doses are always given per kilogram of seed, so the maths is a straight multiplication. This calculator scales the label dose to your seed quantity (in kg or quintal) and, optionally, the water for making a slurry.
We never suggest a product or dose. Use the one approved for your crop on the product label, or the one your agriculture officer or KVK recommends.
Order of treatment
When a crop needs more than one treatment, the commonly advised order is F-I-R: fungicide first, then insecticide, then Rhizobium or other bio-fertilizer. Chemical fungicides can harm bio-inoculants, so bio-treatments are usually applied last and just before sowing. Always check the product labels for compatibility.

The formula we use
Product needed = Dose per kg × Seed quantity (kg)
Water = Water per kg × Seed quantity (kg)Worked example
You are treating 40 kg of wheat seed with a fungicide labelled at 2 g per kg, as a slurry with 10 ml water per kg.
- Product = 2 × 40 = 80 g.
- Water = 10 × 40 = 400 ml.
Mix the 80 g into the 400 ml of water, spread the seed on a clean sheet or in a seed-treatment drum, add the slurry and mix until every seed is evenly coated. Dry in the shade before sowing.
Things to keep in mind
- Wear gloves and a mask. Treated seed is poisonous – never use leftovers as food or feed, and keep it away from children and animals.
- Treat just before sowing, especially for bio-inoculants, which lose effectiveness over time.
- Don't over-wet the seed. Too much water can start germination or make seed stick in the drill.
- Treated seed is often dyed so it can be recognised. Label any bags of treated seed clearly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate seed treatment dose?
Multiply the label dose per kilogram of seed by the total kilograms of seed. For 3 g/kg and 25 kg of seed you need 75 g.
What is the F-I-R order in seed treatment?
Fungicide first, then insecticide, then Rhizobium (or other bio-fertilizers). It helps protect sensitive biological products from chemicals. Always check label compatibility.
Can I use this for Rhizobium or Trichoderma?
